SUMMIT, An Earth Services Company is seeking a highly motivated Intermediate/Senior Hydrologist (Competition #24-02-0662) to join our Corporate Integration and Special Projects Division. This is a full-time position based out of our Calgary, AB office.

What to Expect:

As an Intermediate/Senior Hydrologist you will be provided with an opportunity to work on a diverse and interesting range of projects throughout Alberta and across the industrial, oil and gas, municipal, and energy sectors. This position will offer a mix of working from home, our head office in Calgary, and fieldwork as needed.

Job Duties:

You will carry out your duties in consultation with Water Resources Manager on all matters. The primary duties include but are not limited to:

  • Leading flood alleviation studies,

  • River restoration,

  • Flood risk assessment,

  • Major infrastructure, and development work in water supply projects.

Candidates must be prepared to work in a multidisciplinary, support business development activities, interacts with several divisions and project teams, and be able to undertake a variety of project tasks related to Water Resources Management.

The ability and willingness to facilitate and participate in efficient and regular communications with remote Project Managers and team leads is required.

Qualifications:

  • Experience characterizing climate and streamflow conditions,

  • Designing, implementing, and managing local and regional monitoring networks and monitoring programs used to characterize baseline conditions, assess water availability, modelling, and support permitting requirements.

  • Applying flood hydrology methods, conducting hydrological analysis for low flow estimation and water resource studies,

  • Analyzing, managing, and interpreting data using GIS software (ArcGIS, MapInfo, QGIS) and analytical tools (R and Python).

  • Skills in analytical and modelling techniques and knowledge of all stages of development and operation of projects and experience with the following software (or equivalent): HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS and the entire HEC series.

  • Study the amounts and timing of river flow, precipitation, evaporation, infiltration; and storage of water in rivers, lakes, wetlands and other water bodies including glaciers, snowpacks and ice sheets.

  • Experience in transport, travel time and fate of dissolved and suspended matters in water, short-term and long-term effects of climate change and weather variability on the outlook.
