SUMMIT, An Earth Services Company is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join the Environmental Planning and Management (EPM) Division as a Project Manager (Competition #19-09-0323) based out of our Lloydminster, AB office. Working under the direction of the Manager, EPM this position will be responsible for managing projects, completing baseline environmental assessments, pre-approvals acquisition, environmental permitting, as well as environmental monitoring/inspection related field work.
You will carry out your duties in consultation with the Project Manager/Manager, EPM on all matters. The primary duties include: managing projects for the oil and gas, power and utilities, land development, and renewable energy sectors. Specifically, primary duties will relate to environmental site assessments and staff mentorship in the following: wildlife surveys, wildlife data analysis and management, vegetation identification, aquatic assessments, species-at-risk surveys, wetland assessments as per the Alberta Wetland Policy, interpretation and assessment of wildlife and fish species habitat requirements, soil classification, and streamflow measurements. You will also coordinate water well tests, and review lab results from water testing. Additional responsibilities include mentoring staff on field survey techniques and construction practices, senior technical review of reports and professional sign-off, lead field programs that may include construction and post-construction monitoring, lead small to medium-sized projects, as well as communicating with clients and reporting to senior staff. Field work and travel is required with this position, sometimes for extended periods.
You will be supported by the entire Summit organization which consists of a dynamic team of technical administrators, business development professionals, an in-house IT department and many other highly experienced, skilled and educated professionals.
A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in project management is preferred
A science-based university degree or college diploma from a recognized institution specializing in Ecology, Biology, or Environmental Science
Project Management Professional certification (PMP) or the ability to demonstrate similar skill sets
Registered Professional Biologist or ability to obtain would be considered an asset
Experience with Wildlife and Biology is required
Knowledge of the Alberta Wetland Policy, ability to mentor staff on how to complete wetland assessments, and meet the Government of Alberta’s Professional Practice Standards for professional sign-off on wetland assessments
Knowledge of working with different regulatory agencies, including (but not limited to) Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP), Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC), Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment (ENV), Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), Indian Oil and Gas Commission (IOGC), Special Areas Board (SAB), Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).
Experience designing and planning projects using the Alberta Sensitive Species Inventory Guidelines, the AER’s Directives 035 & 056, AEP’s Wildlife Directives for both wind energy and solar energy projects, the SAB’s Environmental Review Form, as well as IOGC’s Environmental Review and Audit forms as well as Saskatchewan Species Detection protocols and associated guidelines.
Experience with environmental monitoring/inspection on large scale linear projects
