September 30, 2021 marks the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Today honours the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

For more information you can visit this link for the Orange Shirt Society: https://www.orangeshirtday.org/about-us.html

Summit respects the 94 calls to action put forth by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and is doing our part to support this process. The 92nd call to action asks Summit to provide education for management and staff on the history of Aboriginal peoples, including the history and legacy of the residential schools. Part of this commitment is the basic Indigenous cultural awareness training that is standard training for all employees at Summit. Another aspect of our commitment will be the activities we embrace on September 30th. Those activities include the following:

  • It is the expectation that every Summit employee will support Orange Shirt Day by wearing an orange shirt (if not possible due to any work conditions we promote alternative options that will not interfere with our working conditions)

  • ALL staff working from HOME, OFFICE, or FIELD, are to observe 94 seconds of silence at 9:40 am on the 30th.

We hope you join us in honouring this day by wearing your orange shirt and observing 94 seconds of silence at 9:40
